Meet Colin Theron, a key member of CoreTech’s IT Project Services team. His passion for IT started simultaneously with his gaming hobby at a young age. Read on, and find out more:
One of my hobbies is gaming, and I became interested in it and IT at about the same time. My father was in IT, so we built computers to play certain games. And that is how my hobby and interest in IT began.
Growing Up
I grew up in Sarasota, Florida, with its white sand beaches and heat. Friends and I would play street hockey, and then they built an indoor ice rink, so we started playing ice hockey.
Family
My wife, Alexandra, and I first met when I was stationed in Germany with the Air Force. We dated then, but I was young and not ready to get married yet. We parted ways at that time, but we circled back and reconnected when I was recovering from surgery in Florida. She came to visit several times, and I visited Omaha. Visiting Omaha was different from what I expected—there were lots of people! I moved to Omaha in 2022, and Alex and I married in March 2024!
Work
I like working in IT because it’s constantly changing. I never thought I would love the constant learning. At times, it gets tiring, but it’s a good challenge, too. I’ve enjoyed continuing my education and learning new concepts and technologies. At CoreTech, I like the freedom to design and implement projects, new technologies, and products that benefit our clients. The collaboration with other team members is incredible as well.
What’s on Deck Now?
I am working on various certifications, and furthering my education with an Associate’s in Cloud & Server Administration. My two stepdaughters keep Alexandra and me busy as well. They were both previously involved with gymnastics. Now, Sophia, our youngest, is starting 4H horseback riding and the oldest, Victoria, will be practicing her driving to get her license at 16.
