CoreTech Milestones Over The Years

Founding CoreTech

It all began in 2000. That's when Chris and Larry Vilim founded CoreTech, focusing on providing high-quality IT support and consulting for local businesses in the Omaha metro area. Starting with eight staff, CoreTech began a journey that ultimately saw growth, innovation, and a transformation in IT services focused on business needs, goals, and drivers.

In 2005, CoreTech leadership embarked on a remarkable shift in services. Small and midsized business technology infrastructure was now more complex. Productivity and uptime were even more critical for business owners and managers to meet daily operational goals. Moving away from the break-fix model, CoreTech's team rolled out automation tools to take advantage of proactive system management, monitoring, and remote management.

A New Location

Another big year, 2009, saw the company move from Grover Street to its current location on M Street. A larger facility offered more flexibility and room for growth, as well as the opportunity to hold training and client events.

Private Hosting

Never standing still, CoreTech added a new service category in 2009. Private hosting was now available through a data center. This gave customers more redundancy for operational uptime, enhanced physical security, and eliminated the need for on-premise servers.

In 2011, the promotion of CoreTech's cloud services and tools for the modern office took hold and were adopted into our clients' operations. CoreTech consulted with clients to review their business needs, goals and drivers. Delivering cloud strategies included discussing the client's business strategy and adopting the specific cloud services and tools that were a beneficial fit.

As cybersecurity threats grew in number and became more dangerous to SMBs, CoreTech tested and delivered tools and services to protect them. Our team, continually evolving, set their sights on shielding clients from harm. By 2015, CoreTech was providing robust security offerings to clients to help them avoid downtime from phishing, malware, and data breaches.

Larry Vilim Retires

In 2016, after 42 years in technology and 16 years partnering in leadership at CoreTech, Larry Vilim retired. He was ready to leave the constant change behind, relax his pace, spend time with his grandkids, and travel with his wife. Larry was confident stepping aside as he knew the company was in good hands and the CoreTech team was prepared to tackle all that lay ahead.

A significant addition to the CoreTech ecosystem came in 2017. The company acquired two phone systems businesses. With these new technical assets, CoreTech expanded its cloud-driven service offerings to include unified communications. As legacy phone companies announced end-of-life for their phone systems, CoreTech supported clients in transitioning to cloud voice and n-premise phone system offerings.

In 2018, CoreTech finalized a key effort to identify the best security tools and services in the market and map those to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework. We evaluated, tested and implemented security services and tools at CoreTech, and then rolled them out to clients. Our goal was to protect our clients' data, maintain productivity, reduce their risk, help them meet industry demands, and comply with regulatory standards.

Navigating COVID
and Work From Home

COVID turned the world upside down, but CoreTech was there to help clients move forward. With appropriate measures in place, CoreTech served clients onsite and remotely. The sudden demand for work-from-home solutions kept the CoreTech project team busy, and 2020 proved to be a seminal year in solving unique and flexible remote work situations. In the midst of it all CoreTech celebrated its 20th anniversary.

A full 25 years later, CoreTech is celebrating a quarter-century of tech support in the Omaha and Lincoln Metropolitan areas. We are so thankful for our clients, old and new, and we are so appreciative of those relationships and their trust and confidence in our service delivery.

We couldn't have made it this far without living our Core Values established in 2013: Professionalism, Service Excellence, Solution-Oriented, Teamwork, and Enthusiasm. We recognize that as a team we are stronger and will achieve more than we ever could individually.

We look forward to serving the Nebraska/Iowa business communities and beyond for another 25 years!

A Glimpse Into The Next 25 Years

Looking ahead, you can expect more big moves from CoreTech. We're exploring beneficial Al solutions for SMBs, adapting them for clients across industries, and providing support that helps businesses understand how to make use of their Al.

We are also continuing to explore platforms that use conferencing and collaboration to improve daily business performance. The pandemic introduced changes to our work communications, and applications quickly evolved. As younger generations bring different expectations to their work, we look for more adaptations to improve business processes and the technology supporting them.

We will always remain focused on building collaborative relationships with our clients, helping them fulfill their business goals, and implementing technology as a strategic asset.
